- Spectacular S1600 cars to be included alongside the best of Group A and WRC
- Entries available to line-up alongside some of the world’s greatest rally drivers
- Seven stages, 80kms and one incredible atmosphere from May 24-27
- Adamo: “This event will bring all the best aspects of our sport together.”
They were the cars that created so many careers, so many world champions. Sébastiens Loeb and Ogier wouldn’t be where they are without them. They helped Dani Sordo and Kris Meeke break onto the world stage.
What are they?
Super 1600 cars, of course. These are the front-wheel drive screamers that lit up the Junior WRC through the 2000s. Anybody who stood and watched one of these things on the limit will never forget that sight. Or sound.
Logiman Mythical Cars Rally (May 24-27) will rekindle those memories. And make new ones.
On the day that entries open for what’s fast becoming one of the most anticipated all-new rallies of the season, Logiman Mythical Cars Rally advisor Andrea Adamo is delighted to confirm Super 1600 participation.
“These cars were so important to this era and this generation for our sport,” he said. “So many drivers started their WRC career in what were really spectacular class cars.
“It’s fantastic to be able to welcome Super 1600 to the Logiman Mythical Cars Rally. Really, now we are producing the most amazing opportunity for people with all kinds of cars from the world championship years between the early 1990s all the way through to 2021.
“Honestly, the Logiman Mythical Cars Rally can be a history lesson for our sport. This is definitely my kind of history lesson!”
From today – Sunday March 26 – two months before the opening stage of the Logiman Mythical Cars Rally, entries are open.
Based out of Varzi and running across some of Lombardy’s most spectacular and famous stages, the route is tailored to showcase the best aspects of the sport and the stunning surroundings.
Adamo: “We have a special philosophy for this rally. We want the best roads, which we have; we want the most iconic and amazing cars; we want the best crews and we want to show people everything that is good and amazing about this part of Italy.
“We are preparing a service park which will bring the most incredible atmosphere from Wednesday until Saturday night. Speaking honestly, we’re going to bring the best aspects of our sport together in one week – and that’s why Super 1600 has to be in there.”
ACI Pavia president, Marino Scabini, is enthusiastic about the arrival of the Super 1600s cars. He said: “Super 1600 cars are truly spectacular machines and it seemed right to add them to our event, alongside all the other cars that really brought to life the World Rally Championship at that time.”
The all-asphalt event is split across two days. The organisers are running an innovative, seven-hour shakedown stage through Friday May 26, with the opening test set for 1948 that evening. Saturday brings six more stages and a total of 78 competitive kilometres.
