The entry for this month’s Logiman Mythical Cars Rally is looking busier and busier – it’s what happens when the world wants to pit themselves against heroes like Marcus Grönholm, Alister McRae and Andreas Mikkelsen – and now leading Turkish rally star Burcu Çetinkaya has confirmed her presence.
Burcu, who starred on the world stage earlier in her career, remains a household name in her Turkish homeland. Returning to the driving seat this season, she is delighted to be back in Italy for what’s going to be a stunning celebration of rallying in Varzi from May 25-27.
The car Burcu will drive at Logiman Mythical Cars Rally will attract plenty of attention – the Mini R4 is fitted with the innovative Oreca kit. It’s four-wheel drive with a turbocharged 1600cc engine. The performance of the car is close to Rally2, but for Burcu, it’s all about putting smiles on faces in Lombardy later this month.
“I am very happy to be in Italy again after a long break,” she said. “My past experience in Italy includes competing in Sardinia on the WRC round, in Adriatico Rally with Fabrizia Pons co-driving and Sanremo as a round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC).
“For me, some of my best memories in the sport are coming from the IRC. Driving cars like the Peugeot [207] S2000, it was special. I was the only lady driver to score IRC points and I took a special Eurosport award. These cars and this time in the sport was amazing – but I honestly think Logiman Mythical Cars Rally can recreate this time.
“When you look at the cars, some of the Subarus for drivers like Marcus [Grönholm] and Alister and back to the [Škoda Fabia] S2000 car for Andreas Mikkelsen, it will be a spectacular event. For me, I’m intrigued by the Mini R4 I will be using – I can’t wait to get there and drive it.
“I have to say, I am in love with this concept of the rally and the party atmosphere – it’s so important to remember the fans and the people of this sport. I’m looking forward to a very special week in Varzi!
The all-asphalt, all-action Logiman Mythical Cars Rally is split across two days, starting on Friday May 26, with the opening test set for 1948 that evening. Saturday brings six more stages and a total of 78 competitive kilometres.
